Are you a postdoc at a Leibniz Institute? Mark your calendars for an enriching and engaging event designed just for you! We’re excited to invite you to the upcoming Leibniz Postdoc Network General Assembly, a perfect opportunity to connect, collaborate, and learn. Here’s what you can look forward to:
Day 1 – November 14th, 2024 (Thursday): On-site only at the Leibniz Headquarters, Chausseestr. 111, 10115 Berlin
9:00 – 17:00 – Parallel Workshops
Kick off the event with a series of interactive workshops, offering hands-on experiences and deep dives into various topics. Whether you’re looking to sharpen your skills or explore new areas of research, these workshops are designed to provide valuable insights and practical knowledge.
Please note that workshops are on-site only and have limited spots. These will be allocated on a ‘first-come, first-served’ basis. If you secure a spot, you will receive a confirmation at a later date. You can choose one of the workshops to register:
Workshop 1: “Team Communication and Supervision: An Introduction to Roles, Styles, and Tools Available” by Dr. Matteo Garavoglia
Participants will explore issues that often affect communication in team dynamics and supervision. They will investigate tools available to handle these challenges through a mix of theoretical insights and hands-on practical exercises. This workshop will cover the following topics:
- Different leadership styles
- Roles and functions within a team
- Team strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats
- Delegating tasks: when and how
- Using different types of power at your disposal
- Giving and receiving high-quality feedback
- Nurturing a constructive and positive atmosphere
- The intercultural dimension
Workshop 2: “Facilitating Scientific Meetings” by Dr. Michael Gordian
This workshop aims to make scientific meetings more efficient, exciting, and fun through practical techniques and psychological principles. This workshop will cover the following topics:
- The 10 principles of successful moderation
- Effective body language for confident group presentations
- Gamification and creative techniques for scientific meetings
- Group psychology: motivating and activating groups
- Psychological principles of persuasion and influence
- Quick graphic visualisations and PowerPoint do’s and don’ts
17:00 – 19:00 – Poster Session
This interdisciplinary poster session will create an opportunity to present your research and explore the innovative work being done by fellow postdocs across different Leibniz Institutes. Rather than focusing on the results, this poster session aims to offer a dedicated time and space to discuss ideas and explore interdisciplinary collaborations between Leibniz Postdocs. We strongly encourage you to use this session as a platform to start new collaborations. If you need a collaborator for a project, consider reaching out to potential collaborators and inviting them to join.
19:00 onwards – Networking Dinner (self-paid)
We will end the first day with a relaxing networking dinner.
Day 2 – November 15th, 2024 (Friday) – On-site & Online
9:00 – 10:15 – Introduction to the Leibniz Postdoc Network and Working Groups
Start your day with an introduction to the Leibniz Postdoc Network. Learn about the various working groups, their missions and activities, and how you can get involved with the network. This session is essential for new members and a great refresher for current ones.
10:30 – 12:00 – Keynote Webinar by Dr. Desiree Dickerson – “Managing Conflict”
Don’t miss this insightful keynote webinar by Dr. Desiree Dickerson, who will discuss strategies for managing conflict in professional settings. This session promises to be both enlightening and practical, providing tools you can apply in your daily work. In this webinar, you will learn effective strategies to navigate and resolve conflicts in the workplace. Conflict is a part of any relationship and becomes more frequent when stress is high. In this interactive session, we explore how to recognize key triggers for conflict in academic and supervisory relationships. 12:45 – 14:00 – Leibniz PostDoc Network – Past, Present, and Future
Driven by and for postdocs, the Leibniz Postdoc Network not only serves as your representative body within the Leibniz Association but also aims to support postdocs. The steering committee will share this past year’s work and guide discussions to define our upcoming plans. As a valued member of this network, you will have a chance to engage in these discussions and shape the network’s future.
14:00 – 14:30 – Network Elections
We will conclude the event with the election of new representatives. Your participation is crucial in shaping the future of the Leibniz Postdoc Network. Not only can you help select the new Spokespersons and Financial Officer who will lead us into 2025, but you can also run for these positions. This is your opportunity to have a direct impact on the network and its direction for the coming year.
