SUMMARY:Postdoc Surveys – Benefits\, Considerations and Opportunities for Improving the Postdoc Experience
DESCRIPTION:Postdocs are the backbone of academia. They get involved with a variety of different tasks ranging from teaching to conducting high-quality research as well as science communication. In these roles\, postdocs often face incredibly challenging working conditions driven by short-term insecure contracts and a poor work-life balance. To better understand postdocs’ lives and provide data to improve working conditions\, research organisations have started to survey their postdocs. \nIn this panel\, we will highlight some of the most important findings coming out of the recent Leibniz Postdoc Network\, Max Planck PostdocNet postdoc survey and Nature Career’s survey on hiring practices in academia. We will debate how to move forward and think of what structural changes are needed for postdocs inside and outside Germany. We will also provide tips for postdocs interested in conducting surveys in their own institutions. \nWe strongly invite participants to join this discussion so that we can improve the working lives postdocs together. \n  \nThe debate will be run in English by Dr. Regina Becker\, Judith Münch\, David Payne\, Dr. Nicholas J. Russell and Dr. Harry M. Williams from Leibniz Postdoc\, Network and Max Planck PostdocNet and Nature Career. \nThe event is opend for everyone with unlimited access! So\, please fill free to join this online event.\nRegistration is required until 19th September 2024 – registration form \nCheck out for other events: https://paw-germany.de/program-2024/
